Manual Illustration

This Project was completed in Illustration. The objective is to use the limitations of the project to make it stronger. With this, we were required to use a liquid medium to create an emotional background that relates to the poet we choose. 

For this project, I chose Emily Dickinson, and her poem, “Banish Air from Air.” By utilizing a melancholic color palette and large negative space, The illustrations tie into the Dickinson isolation and lonelieness. The process included multilpe experimentations with different wet media. Ultimately, I decided on inks to complete my design. 

The inside spread includes a large negative space and an ocean-like illustration to emphasize the loneliness and whimsical nature of her poetry. The type layout is designed to emphasize the emptiness.
